What is the Living Historical Farm?
Every April, the Living Historical Farm springs back to life, offering a first-hand look into the 1800s when Abraham Lincoln and his family lived here. The farm is located inside Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial, a national park that introduces visitors to the young pioneer life of our 16th president.
What to Expect:
You’ll find several reenactors dressed in pioneer clothing giving demonstrations on a re-created homestead with a cabin, outbuildings, split rail fences, farm animals, herb gardens field crops, and more. There are horses, a milk cow, sheep, chickens, and if you’re lucky, you’ll get to meet the latest additions when baby animals are born!
A few of the activities you may get to witness might include:
- Arts and crafts
- Farming with horse-drawn plows
- Sheep sheering
- Wool spinning
- Cooking
- Woodworking
And whatever else needs to be done on the farm! It’s not uncommon for visitors to participate in the daily farm activities, making it a learning experience they’ll never forget.
The reenactors are not only very knowledgeable, but a blast to be around. Ranger Bob has been informing and entertaining visitors for over 20 years! His presentations make for special memories and the little ones are usually left in awe as they experience demonstrations from days gone by.
